8th Grade End of Year Celebrations
Congratulations Class of 2029! Three years have flown by and your student is almost off to high school. This letter contains important information about the special activities and events that have been planned as a culmination of your student's eighth grade year. The $40 non-refundable, non-transferable dues must be paid via MySchoolBucks on the LGMS website. 8th Grade Dues must be purchased by April 4th, 2025
8th Grade dues include:
- Exclusive Class of 2029 T-Shirt
- Picnic Lunch (The Varsity Food Truck)
- Kona Ice
- Ticket to the 8th Grade Formal
No late payments will be accepted. Students will not be allowed to purchase formal tickets the day of the event. Neither will tickets be sold at entry. Donations will be accepted and LGMS will determine to whom any collected donations will be distributed.
Students are expected to follow all LGMS Wildcat behavior expectations during all EOY celebrations. In order to participate in the End of Year events, students must demonstrate a willingness to follow school rules and procedures. Students will not be allowed to attend the Semi-Formal Dance if they have more than two Level 1 referrals or any one Level 2 or higher referral between March 17th-May 16th. (Please remember that 4 steps equals a Level 1 referral.) Per Henry County Schools policy, students must be counted present at school to attend the Semi-Formal Dance (see pg 10). We are looking forward to celebrating our 8th grade students and their achievements!
8th Grade End of the Year Events
Thursday, May 15th LUNCH IN THE GROVE 11:00-2:00 PM
A picnic filled with games, food and fun! The Varsity Food Truck will visit LGMS & prepare hot dogs and burgers, with a side of onion rings or fries. fresh fruit and dessert). Enjoy a cool treat catered by Kona Ice. Students are encouraged to bring a picnic blanket or towel. This is a blue-out! Please wear blue shirts to represent your Wildcat Pride!
Friday, May 16th SEMI-FORMAL DANCE 6:00-8:00PM
Dress to impress at our semi-formal dance! Girls should wear party dresses, dress pants or suits, boys should wear dress slacks, dress shirts or a suit and tie. All attire MUST meet the standards for the HCS Dress Code. This is not a prom, no limos, tuxedos, formal ball gowns or extravagant attire. All attendees must be LGMS 8th graders.
Students must be counted present for the school day in order to attend the Semi-Formal Dance. Check-outs before 12:35pm will be considered an unexcused absence and will not be permitted entry.
Wednesday, May 21st WILDCAT HONORS CEREMONY 12:30-1:00 PM
(By Invitation Only)We will honor outstanding students for their achievements throughout the school year. This is an invitation only event. Parents/guardians are encouraged to attend and will be required to pre-register for the event (including registering non-household visitors - link will be sent closer to the Ceremony). Once the ceremony has concluded, we will ask all visitors to exit the building in preparation for the 8th Grade Walkover.
8th Grade Walkover 2:00 PM
(All 8th Graders)It’s hard to say goodbye! Following the ceremony, all 8th graders will take a final ceremonial walk around LGMS. Then, we will walk to the high school for Mrs. Thomas to hand over the Class of 2029 to Mr. Townsend, Locust Grove High School principal. We encourage all visitors to participate in the Walkover by lining the walkway at the sports complex between LGMS and LGHS and cheering on your students with noisemakers, posters, and cheers!
Students should wear their LGMS class t-shirt, jeans (without holes) or dress pants. Thursday, May 22nd Silent Work Day
This day is for students who need to make up Final Exams and any missing assignments to finalize grades.Friday, May 23rd LAST DAY OF SCHOOL (Early Release)
