Athletic Participation Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Exciting News!

Beginning this school year, 6th-grade students are eligible to participate in Henry County Schools Middle School Athletic League sports and activities. This expansion provides students with earlier opportunities to connect with their school community, build positive relationships, and develop healthy habits through athletics.

1. Can my 6th grader participate in middle school sports?

Yes! Beginning this school year, all eligible 6th-grade students may participate in Henry County Schools Middle School Athletic League sports and activities.

2. Why did Henry County Schools make this change?

The goal is to increase student participation, engagement, and opportunities during the middle school years. Athletics help students build connections, develop teamwork skills, and support their overall academic, social, emotional, and physical growth.

3. What are the eligibility requirements for 6th graders?

Students must:

  • Pass a minimum of 2.5 academic credits from the prior semester
  • Cannot fail more than 2 core academics
  • Meet attendance requirements
  • Meet behavior and conduct expectations
  • Comply with all Henry County Schools Athletic League eligibility requirements

4. What paperwork is required before participation?

Every 6th-grade participant must complete all required athletic documentation before being eligible to participate.

Required documents include:

  • A Henry County Schools Athletics Consent Form with a wet (handwritten) signature [6th Grade only]
  • The completed consent form uploaded into the student's Aktivate account
  • A current athletic physical examination

5. What are the Aktivate requirements?

Students must complete a separate registration in Aktivate.com for each sport they wish to participate in. Registration for one sport does not automatically register a student for another sport.

6. What are the physical requirements?

Students must have a current athletic physical completed by a licensed healthcare provider.

The physical must:

  • Include all four required pages
  • Be completely filled out
  • Include the physician's office stamp
  • Be uploaded into the student's Aktivate account before participation

Incomplete physicals, missing pages, or forms without the physician's office stamp may delay eligibility.

7. When is eligibility checked?

Student-athletes are reviewed for eligibility throughout the year. An eligibility update will be conducted at the beginning of the second semester for all winter sports participants.

8. How is second-semester eligibility determined?

Second-semester eligibility is based on:

  • Final first-semester grades
  • Student status on the first day of the second semester

9. What happens if my child is repairing a grade?

If a student is completing grade repair, they are considered ineligible until the corrected grade has been officially repaired and posted.

10. When does a student become eligible to participate?

A student becomes eligible once they are officially enrolled as a 6th-grade student in Henry County Schools.

11. How many years can a student participate in middle school athletics?

A student may not exceed three (3) years of athletic eligibility, regardless of the number of schools attended.

12. Will athletics affect my child's academic responsibilities?

Student-athletes are expected to maintain academic success while participating in athletics. The district emphasizes the connection between academic achievement and athletic participation.

13. Who should I contact if I have questions?

Please contact your school's Athletic Director, Priscilla Fenty for additional information and sport-specific details.
